On November 5, 2011 we lost a great man with so much love and life to give.
The sudden passing of our partner is a shock and loss to everyone. An excellent lawyer and fabulous story teller
JOHN W. MURPHY passed peacefully at home. John was born on September 6, 1946 in San Francisco. He graduated from St. Cecilia's and Riordan
High School. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, from which he graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Next he attended the University of San Francisco's School of Law and got his Juris Doctor degree in 1972. He served in the
Army and was a captain in the JAG Corps. He was admitted to the California State Bar on December 13, 1972 and practiced civil
and criminal law until specializing in workers' compensation when he joined the firm of Ramos, Herlihy and Broadbeck in San
Francisco. In 1983 he moved to Sacramento and went to work as house counsel for EBI, where he met his future wife Chris. In
1998 he joined his current firm and became a partner in 1999 in the firm now known as Rahn, Murphy & Young, LLP. John
was a certified specialist in workers' compensation law and lectured to many professional groups. He was a well-known litigator
who handled the most difficult cases against the toughest opponents, getting excellent results. He was preceded in death by his father William
J. Murphy. He is survived by his loving wife, Chris, his stepdaughter Brandy Larrabee, his mother Marie Murphy, his
sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Jack Burke and his beloved nieces Kathy Phillips and Colleen Webster. John had a wealth of stories and could entertain
people for hours. All who met him remember his colorful conversation and great personality. He will be sorely
missed by all his family, friends and associates. A funeral mass will be held on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2011
at 10:30 a.m. at ST. JOHN'S THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 307 Montrose Drive, Folsom, CA 95630. A private internment
